The collegiate football tournament is in partnership with the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA), Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The tournament, which is open to all registered students at SWAC, MEAC, SIAC, and CIAA institutions, will connect HBCU communities and encourage competition among the most talented Madden NFL players.

NFL Head of Gaming & Esports Rachel Hoagland told SBJ Esports that the league is working with Madden publisher EA to expand Madden esports across college campuses. “The NFL over the past couple of years…has been working closely with [HBCUs] on a number of different programs. We thought, as we talked internally over the summer months, that given the growing importance of esports on college campuses was just a natural extension of the work that’s already being done to provide opportunity and access to the league and more broadly make esports and gaming more inclusive.”

Registered players will participate in a single elimination qualifier tournament for their school's conference with the top four from each conference – a total of 16 players –advancing to the NFL Madden x HBCU Showcase Super Bowl week. This inaugural tournament is just one of several programs the NFL has implemented to recognize and strengthen its relationships with HBCUs across the country.

Students from the schools in those conferences can now register here to compete in the tournament for free with a chance to win cash prizes.

The schedule for the qualifiers is as follows:
    MEAC & SIAC: Saturday, November 14, 2020, 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT
    SWAC & CIAA: Sunday, November 15, 2020, 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT
